Growth in total output continued in March

Total output was 5.9 per cent higher in the year to March. After adjustment for seasonal variation, output in March was up by 0.4 per cent from February. In February output increased by 4.7 per cent compared to the year before. Output in March continued to grow in all branches of industry. The data are indicated by Statistics Finland's monthly indicator of total output.

Output in agriculture and forestry rose by 6.5 per cent in March. Output in manufacturing was 8.8 per cent higher than the year before as calculated per working day. Output in the construction industry was up by 14.5 per cent, and that of trade and commerce by 2.5 per cent. Output in transport and communications grew by close on 6 per cent on the previous year, while in other services as well as in government services the increase was 2.5 per cent.

The monthly indicator of total output is based on eleven monthly series on different sectors of the economy, which are weighted and summed up.
