Number of assaults by persons aged under 15 grew by 23.4 per cent in 2021

According to Statistics Finland's data, 127,800 theft offences were recorded by the police, customs and border guard during 2021. The number of reported rape offences grew by 27.7 per cent. The number of assaults by persons aged under 15 grew by 23.4 per cent from the year before.

  • The number of suspects of solved assaults aged under 15 was slightly under 2,200. This is 23.4 per cent more than one year earlier
  • Eighty-seven per cent of the suspects of solved assaults aged under 15 were boys.
  • In cases of assaults committed by persons aged under 15, the victim was underage in approximately 80 per cent of cases.
  • The number of offences against the Criminal Code recorded by the authorities fell by 11.2 per cent from 2020.
