In the third quarter of 2022 (July to September), the average number of employed persons was 2,638,000, which was 57,000 more than in the corresponding period of 2021.

The number of hours worked by employed persons was 989.4 million in the third quarter of 2022, which was 1.5 per cent more than one year ago.

Number of unemployed persons unchanged, number of persons in the inactive population decreased

The average number of unemployed persons in the third quarter of 2022 was 189,000, which was slightly fewer than in the July to September period of 2021. The unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2022 was 6.7 per cent, which was 0.2 percentage points lower than a year earlier.

In the third quarter of 2022, the number of persons in the inactive population was 1,292,000, which was 60,000 fewer than a year earlier.
