According to Statistics Finland, turnover in total trade adjusted for working days increased by 4.4 per cent from one year ago. The working day adjusted volume of sales in total trade, from which the impact of price changes has been eliminated, went down by 4.6 per cent. Turnover grew the most in motor vehicle trade.

Turnover increased in all biggest industries of trade

Working day adjusted turnover in motor vehicle trade went up by 5.5 per cent in December from one year back. Sales volume fell by 0.2 per cent from one year ago.

Working day adjusted turnover in the trade industry with the biggest turnover, wholesale trade, grew in December by 5.3 per cent, but sales volume decreased by 4.9 per cent year-on-year. The more favourable development in turnover than in sales volume in wholesale trade is explained by higher prices especially of processed petroleum products and food.

In retail trade, working day adjusted turnover grew by 2.5 per cent in December but sales volume decreased by 6.1 per cent. Turnover in daily consumer goods trade increased by 3.9 per cent from the previous year while sales volume decreased by 7.6 per cent in the corresponding period. Turnover in department store trade grew by 2.4 per cent but sales volume fell by 7.0 per cent from one year back. Turnover in specialised store trade decreased by 0.7 per cent and sales volume fell by 5.8 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted turnover decreased compared to November

Seasonally adjusted turnover in total trade fell by 1.5 per cent in December compared to November. Seasonally adjusted sales volume went down by 1.1 per cent. In November, seasonally adjusted turnover grew by 0.5 per cent and sales volume by 0.6 per cent compared to the month before.
