According to Statistics Finland, prices of liquid fuels and natural gas decreased in the second quarter of 2023 compared with the corresponding period in 2022. The price of electricity acquired by large electricity users also fell. Correspondingly, the prices of milled peat, forest chippings and electricity for consumer types using little electricity went up.
Key selections
- Consumer prices of liquid fuels decreased in June 2023 compared to one year earlier. The consumer price of petrol went down by 23 per cent, that of diesel by 24 per cent and that of light fuel oil by 32 per cent.
- The drop in the price of natural gas that has continued since last autumn evened out in the second quarter of 2023. Compared with the price of May 2023, the price of natural gas rose slightly in June.
- The price of milled peat rose by 16 per cent in the second quarter of 2023 and the price of forest chippings increased by 23 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2022.
- The electricity prices for household customers went up by nine to seventeen per cent in the second quarter of 2023 compared with the previous year. The price of electricity for small enterprise and corporate clients correspondingly rose by three to six per cent.
- The price of electricity consumed by large electricity users fell by 13 to 46 per cent depending on the consumption category. This was mainly explained by the fact that the area price for Finland on the electricity exchange fell by 55 per cent in the second quarter of 2023 compared to one year ago.
