Change

The group of statistical units in the structural business and financial statement statistics will be expanded starting from the statistical reference year 2021. Limitations concerning the operating time and size of enterprises have been removed from the definition of statistical units.

According to Statistics Finland, there were around 562,000 enterprises operating in Finland in 2021. About one-half of enterprises, around 287,000, operated in service industries (TOL H to S). The second most enterprises were found in primary production (TOL A), around 131,000. The number of enterprises in trade (TOL G) was around 56,000, in construction (TOL F) about 55,000 and in industry (TOL B to E) around 33,000.

Group of statistical units has been renewed

The data of the statistics have been produced for the first time according to the new EU Regulation on business statistics starting from 2021. As a result of the regulation change, the population of statistical units has grown by nearly 50 %. The effects of the change are described in the review (in Finnish).
