Turnover in trade fell by 3.6 per cent in January 2024

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in total trade fell by 3.6 per cent in January 2024 from one year ago. The working day adjusted volume of sales in total trade, from which the impact of price changes has been eliminated, went down by 3,9 per cent.

Turnover of cultural and recreation goods declining
Working day adjusted turnover in motor vehicle trade went up by 2.3 per cent in January. Sales volume in motor vehicle trade grew by 1.4 per cent from one year back.
Working day adjusted turnover in the trade industry with the biggest turnover, wholesale trade, decreased in January by 6.5 per cent and sales volume by 6,1 per cent year-on-year.
Working day adjusted turnover in retail trade decreased by 1.6 per cent and sales volume by 2.9 per cent in January. Turnover in retail trade of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores fell by 10.4 per cent and sales volume by 12.3 per cent year-on-year.
Seasonally adjusted turnover fell compared to December
Seasonally adjusted turnover in total trade fell by 0.2 per cent in January 2024 compared to December 2023. Seasonally adjusted sales volume went up by 0.1 per cent. In December, seasonally adjusted turnover decreased by 0.2 per cent and sales volume by 0.3 per cent from one month back.
