Number of solved offences and infractions grew by nearly 20 per cent in 2023

According to Statistics Finland's data, a total of 529,800 offences and infractions were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in 2023, which is 35,000 (7.1%) more than in the previous year. These authorities solved a total of 358,500 offences and infractions, which is 59,000 more than in 2022. The clearance rate of offences and infractions was 67.7 per cent.

  • In 2023, a total of 57 offences against life were recorded, which is fewer than at any time since 1980.
  • The median for the processing time of assault offences was 132 days for plaintiffs aged under 18, which is 27 days fewer than in the previous year.
  • The median for the processing time of assault offences was 90 days for suspects aged under 18, which is 15 days fewer than in the year before.
  • The number of persons of Finnish background suspected of offences against the Criminal Code grew by 19.5 per cent and that of persons of foreign background by 17.2 per cent.
