Only small change in the pass rate of studies in 2023

According to Statistics Finland, completion of a master's degree in the target time improved in 2023. In other sectors of education, the share of those having completed education within the target time remained on level with 2022. A master's degree was completed within the target time by 37 per cent and a university of applied sciences degree by 58 per cent. General upper secondary education was completed within the target time by 78 per cent and vocational education and training by 55 per cent.

Key selections

  • In 2023, a total of 79 per cent of men and 77 per cent of women passed the matriculation examination in three-and-a-half years.
  • The pass rate of vocational education and training remained unchanged compared to 2022. 
  • In university of applied sciences education, women's pass rate was 26 percentage points higher than men's.
  • The pass rate for master's degrees improved by one percentage point from 2022.
