According to Statistics Finland, 10 per cent of all children aged 0 to 15 experienced material deprivation in 2024. The share has grown from 2021 when it was 3.7 per cent. Material deprivation is more commonly experienced by children living in one-adult households (22.9%) than by children living with two adults (6.9%).

  • Material deprivation among children aged 0 to 15 increased from 3.7 to 10 per cent from 2021 to 2024.
  • Deprivation deepened among those experiencing material deprivation. In 2024, deprivation occurred, on average, in 4.2 items out of 17. In 2021, the average number of deprivation items was 3.7.
  • Children are mostly in good or very good health. However, it has become more difficult to obtain treatment from a doctor or dentist when needed.
