Number of solved offences and infractions decreased by 12 per cent in 2024

According to Statistics Finland's data, a total of 539,700 offences and infractions were recorded by the police, customs and border guard in 2024, which is 1,800 (-0.3%) fewer than in the previous year. These authorities solved a total of 316,500 offences and infractions, which is 42,500 fewer than in 2023. The clearance rate of offences and infractions was 58.6 per cent.

  • Altogether 89 offences against life were recorded in 2024, which is 32 more than in the previous year.
  • The median for the processing time of assault offences was 154 days for plaintiffs aged under 18, which is 22 days more than in the previous year.
  • The median for the processing time of assault offences was 94 days for suspects aged under 18, which is four days more than in the year before.
  • The number of persons with Finnish background suspected of offences against the Criminal Code decreased by 13.2 per cent and that of persons with foreign background increased by 13.7 per cent.
