Number of victims of domestic violence and intimate partner violence grew by 20 per cent in 2025
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland, there were 15,500 victims in the domestic and intimate partner violence offences reported to the authorities in 2025, which is 20.2 per cent more than in the previous year. Altogether 12,200 of the victims were adults, which is 24.3 per cent more than in the year before. The number of underage victims was 3,400, which is 7.4 per cent more than in the previous year.

- In 2025 the number of victims of intimate partner violence committed by their married spouse increased by 17.2 per cent from the previous year. The number of male victims grew by 38.5 per cent.
- In all, 9.3 per cent more violence directed by parents at their children was reported than in the year before. Altogether 3,200 cases were recorded.
- Forty-eight per cent of underage victims were girls and 74 per cent of adult victims were women.
- Of the suspects of domestic and intimate partner violence, 75 per cent were men. If the victim is a minor, 65 per cent of the suspects are men.
- The statistics include only cases known to the authorities, by no means all cases of domestic and intimate partner violence are reported to the authorities. The same person can be the victim of the same or a different offence more than once.
