Number of pupils participating in Evangelical Lutheran religious education decreased in 2025
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland, 76 per cent of pupils in grades 1 to 6 and 81 per cent of pupils in grades 7 to 9 participated in Evangelical Lutheran religious education. Compared to the previous year, 1.7 percentage points fewer pupils in grades 1 to 6 and 1.2 percentage points fewer pupils in grades 7 to 9 participated in Evangelical Lutheran religious education.

- There are major differences in religion and worldview studies between regions. Ethics education and Islamic religion is clearly studied most in Uusimaa.
- A total of 94 per cent of pupils in grades 1 to 6 studied English in 2025.
- In grades 7 to 9 almost all pupils, 99 per cent, studied English.
- Girls studied optional languages more than boys.
