New orders in manufacturing grew by 5.8 per cent year-on-year in May 2026

According to Statistics Finland, the value of new orders in manufacturing was 5.8 per cent higher in May 2026 than twelve months earlier. The value of new orders received by enterprises during January to May was 4.9 per cent higher than one year ago.

Changes in the examined main industries

In May 2026, enterprises received more orders in all examined main industries than twelve months ago. New orders grew most in the industry of the manufacture of paper, and paper and board products, where the value of orders was 9.5 per cent higher than one year ago. Orders increased by 5.1 per cent in the metal industry and by 4.6 per cent in the chemical industry from one year before. New orders last grew year-on-year in all main industries over one year ago in March 2025.

When interpreting these statistics, it should be borne in mind that they typically show strong fluctuations by month. Even new orders of substantial value are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.
