2. Prices of dwellings in terraced houses rose in the January to March period

According to preliminary data, prices of old dwellings in terraced houses rose by an average of 0.8 per cent from the last quarter of 2012 in the whole country. In Greater Helsinki, prices went down by 0.7 per cent, but in the rest of the country they went up by 1.5 per cent. Compared with the corresponding period of 2012, prices of old dwellings in terraced houses went up by 1.1 per cent in the whole country. In Greater Helsinki, prices rose by 0.5 per cent and in the rest of the country by 1.5 per cent.

In the first quarter of 2013, the average price per square metre of an old dwelling in a terraced house was EUR 2,089 in the whole country, EUR 3,244 in Greater Helsinki and EUR 1,706 elsewhere in the country.

In 2012, prices of dwellings in old blocks of flats rose in the whole country by an average of 0.8 per cent from the year before. In Greater Helsinki, the rise amounted to 1.4 per cent and in the rest of the country to 0.5 per cent. In Greater Helsinki, the price per square metre of an old dwelling in a terraced house was EUR 3,241 and in the rest of Finland EUR 1,703.

The prices of dwellings in new terraced houses increased in the whole country by 3.5 per cent from the last quarter of 2012. Prices went up by 0.3 per cent in Greater Helsinki and by 4.7 per cent elsewhere in Finland. Prices rose by most, or by 10.2 per cent, in Northern Finland. Compared with the corresponding period of 2012, prices of new dwellings in terraced houses rose by an average of 2.7 per cent in the whole country. In Greater Helsinki, prices went down by 0.5 per cent, while in the rest of Finland they went up by 3.8 per cent.

The average price per square metre for a new dwelling in a terraced house was EUR 2,882 in the whole country, EUR 3,779 in Greater Helsinki and EUR 2,665 elsewhere in Finland.

These data derive from the statistics on the prices of dwellings compiled by Statistics Finland from the Tax Administration’s data. The preliminary data cover roughly two-thirds of completed transactions in old dwellings in blocks of flats and terraced houses. The data on new dwellings in blocks of flats are based on information on the transaction prices of the largest building contractors and estate agents.
