Retail trade sales accelerated towards the end of 2010
According to Statistics Finland, boosted by brisk Christmas trade, retail trade sales increased by 4.2 per cent in December from December 2009. Sales volume also grew by 2.3 per cent during the same time period. Whole-sale trade sales went up by 17.8 per cent and motor vehicle sales by 32.5 per cent. In total trade sales increased by 14.5 per cent in December.

When the whole of 2010 is examined, turnover was still moderate in the early part of the year but accelerated towards the end of the year. Over the year, retail trade turnover grew by 3.8 per cent from the previous year. Wholesale trade sales went up by 10.2 per cent and motor vehicle sales by 19.4 per cent. Compared to the previous year, sales in total trade increased by 9.2 per cent over the year. In 2009, sales in total trade fell by 15 per cent from the comparison year of 2008.
