In November, sales declined in all sectors of trade
According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales fell by 4.2 per cent in November from November 2013. The decline in retail trade sales was affected both by the development in daily consumer goods trade and in department store trade. In daily consumer goods trade, sales contracted by 4.5 per cent and in department store trade by 6.8 per cent from one year ago. Wholesale trade sales fell by 3.7 per cent and motor vehicle sales by 2.7 per cent from twelve months earlier. Thus, sales decreased in total trade by 3.7 per cent from November 2013.

In retail trade, the sales volume contracted by 4.4 per cent from November 2013. In wholesale trade and motor vehicle trade, the sales volume decreased by 2.6 per cent in both from the previous year. In November, sales in total trade was 3.1 per cent lower than in November 2013. The volume index of sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the value index series.
Total trade sales fell in January to November by 0.5 per cent year-on-year
In the January to November period, sales contracted by 0.9 per cent in retail trade and by 0.8 per cent in wholesale trade on the respective period of the previous year. By contrast, motor vehicle sales grew by 1.8 per cent over the same period. Total trade sales went down by 0.5 per cent over the corresponding period.
