Real estate maintenance costs rose by 2.6 per cent year-on-year

Real estate maintenance costs rose by 2.6 per cent in the second quarter of 2019 compared to the corresponding period of 2018. These data derive from Statistics Finland’s index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100.

Of the cost items of the index of real estate maintenance, electricity costs increased most, by 9.9 per cent. Renovation costs and heating costs grew by 2.6 per cent. Waste management costs increased by 1.5 per cent, costs of maintenance of outdoor areas by 1.4 per cent and administration costs by 1.3 per cent. Water supply and sewage costs rose by 1.2 per cent and use and maintenance costs by 0.7 per cent. Cleaning costs remained at last year’s level.

Examined by building type, the maintenance costs of industrial buildings went up most, by 3.8 per cent. The costs of wholesale and retail trade buildings increased by 3.4 per cent and the costs of office buildings by 3.2 per cent. Maintenance costs of residential blocks of flats, day care centres and school buildings grew by 2.2 per cent. The maintenance costs of health care centres went up by 2.1 per cent year-on-year.

The total index of real estate maintenance rose by 0.4 per cent from the previous quarter.

Real estate tax and plot rent are not included in the index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100. A special index expanded with these cost items and indices with old base years are available in the Built environment -service .
