Real estate maintenance costs rose by 5.6 per cent year-on-year

Real estate maintenance costs rose by 5.6 per cent in the last quarter of 2021 compared to the corresponding period of 2020. These data derive from Statistics Finland’s index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100.

Of the cost items of the index of real estate maintenance, insurance against loss or damage costs increased most, by 9.8 per cent. Water supply and sewage costs grew by 3.0 per cent, repair costs by 8.3 per cent, heating costs by 6.8 per cent, waste management by 5.7 per cent, administration costs by 2.3 per cent, use and maintenance costs by 2.9 per cent, and costs for maintenance of outdoor areas by 1.2 per cent. Cleaning costs increased by 0.6 per cent and electricity costs by 9.7 per cent.

Examined by type of building, maintenance costs of residential blocks of flats rose by 5.1 per cent, those of industrial buildings by 8.4 per cent, those of office buildings by 5.7 per cent, those of wholesale and retail trade buildings by 5.9 per cent, those of children’s day care centres by 4.9 per cent, those of school buildings by 4.9 per cent and those of health care centres by 4.1 per cent year-on-year.

The total index of real estate maintenance rose by 1.8 per cent from the previous quarter.

Real estate tax and plot rent are not included in the index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100. A special index expanded with these cost items and indices with old base years are available in the Built environment -service .
