Wages and salaries are rising fastest in Itä-Uusimaa and Päijät-Häme
According to Statistics Finland's Structure of Earnings statistics, wages and salaries rose most in the Regions of Itä-Uusimaa and Päijät-Häme, when development in the earnings of full-time wage and salary earners is compared between 2001 and 2006. Over the examined period, development in earnings was slowest in the Regions of Central Finland and Satakunta, where it was approximately four percentage points slower than the average for the whole country.
The average monthly earnings of all full-time wage and salary earners amounted to EUR 2,634 in the last quarter of 2006. In 2006, earnings were highest in Uusimaa at EUR 2,912. No other region then achieved the level of average earnings for the whole country. The regions with the lowest earnings were South Ostrobothnia (EUR 2,340) and Etelä-Savo (EUR 2,351). Because the majority of approximately 34 per cent of all wage and salary earners in Finland work in Uusimaa, earnings in this region have a strong influence on the country's average level of earnings.
The data derive from Statistics Finland's Structure of Earnings statistics, which cover all employer sectors. Monthly earnings for total hours worked are only calculated for full-time wage and salary earners. Besides earnings for regular working hours, the earnings also include pay for overtime and working hour supplements but not one-off performance-based bonuses.
