Cubic volume covered by granted building permits decreased by over 13 per cent in January
In January 2011, building permits were granted for a total of two million cubic metres, which is 13.4 per cent less than one year ago. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production.

The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings went down by 22.6 per cent from one year back. The cubic volume covered by permits for detached houses fell by around 24 per cent and for residential blocks of flats by close on 28 per cent. The cubic volume covered by permits for terraced houses went up by nearly 34 per cent.
The cubic volume of public service buildings fell by nearly 60 per cent and that of commercial and office buildings by over seven per cent. The cubic volume of industrial and warehouse buildings grew by nearly one quarter compared with January 2010.
In January 2011, building permits were granted for 1,581 new dwellings, which is nearly one fifth less than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for detached houses fell by 27.5 per cent and for residential blocks of flats by 15.5 per cent. The number of permits for terraced houses showed little growth.
Volume of newbuilding went up by 22 per cent in January
In January 2011, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production was up by 21.7 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction increased most, by 34.1 per cent.
In residential building, strong growth continued especially in the volume of construction of terraced houses, being up by 54.3 per cent on January 2010. Volumes are also still growing briskly in the construction of residential blocks of flats and detached houses. The volume of construction of industrial and warehouse buildings increased by 20.2 per cent and that of other than residential building construction by 10.8 per cent from one year back.
