Cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew by nearly 66 per cent in June
In June 2011, building permits were granted for a total of 6.4 million cubic metres, which is 65.8 per cent more than one year ago. The cubic volume of granted building permits was biggest in Greater Helsinki and in the region of Pohjois-Savo. In Greater Helsinki the cubic volume was increased by an individual permit granted for a power plant and housing projects and in Pohjois-Savo by building permits granted for shopping centres. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production.
The growth was highest in the cubic volume of building permits granted for industrial and warehouse buildings. The cubic volume covered by permits for industrial buildings more than doubled and that for warehouse buildings grew by nearly one-and-a-half times. The cubic volume of permits for commercial and office buildings also grew considerably. The cubic volume of permits granted for commercial buildings more than tripled.
The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings went up by 34.5 per cent in June. The growth was largest in the cubic volume of permits for residential blocks of flats, which doubled. The cubic volume covered by permits for terraced houses went up by over one fifth. The number of permits granted for detached houses increased by around seven per cent.
In June 2011, building permits were granted for 4,664 new dwellings, which is 47.5 per cent more than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for dwellings built in residential blocks of flats grew by over 89 per cent and the corresponding figure for terraced houses was nearly 34 per cent. The number of permits granted for detached houses went up by around seven per cent.
Volume of newbuilding went up by nearly 8 per cent in June
In June 2011, the constant-price value or volume of ongoing building production grew by 7.9 per cent year-on-year. The volume of construction of residential buildings increased by 12.5 per cent from one year before.
In residential building construction the volume of residential blocks of flats particularly continued to grow strongly. The volumes have also been growing in the construction of terraced houses and detached houses during the year. The volume of construction of residential blocks of flats grew in June by 30.9 per cent, that of terraced houses by 7.2 per cent and that of detached houses by 4.2 per cent.
The volume of construction of industrial and warehouse buildings increased most, by 20.3 per cent from one year earlier. The volume of industrial building construction grew by 23.8 per cent and that of warehouse buildings by 13 per cent from June 2010.
The volume of other than residential building construction went up by 3.8 per cent in June.
