In December Finnish residents made 409,000 overnight leisure trips abroad. In all, 290,000 of them included one or more overnights in the country of destination, eighteen per cent in Estonia and six per cent in Sweden. Most of the cruises including overnights on board only were to Sweden and Estonia.
Finnish residents made 1.8 million leisure trips in Finland. This is 8 per cent up on the corresponding period in the year before. Most of the trips, or 1.5 million, included free accommodation at one’s own free-time residence, with relatives or friends or in some other type of free accommodation.
These preliminary data are based on Statistics Finland’s Finnish Travel Survey for which 1,395 persons aged 15 to 74 permanently resident in Finland were interviewed in January.
In place of monthly releases, data from the Finnish Travel
Survey will in future be released three times a year. The first
release will concern data for the January to April period.
