Producer Price Indices in March 2006
Producer prices for manufactured products rose by 3.8 per cent, export prices by 3.1 per cent and import prices by 8.3 per cent in the year to March. Basic price index for domestic supply rose by 5.3 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in wholesale price index was also 5.3 per cent.
The rise of producer prices for manufactured products was particularly attributable to higher prices of oil products, electricity, copper and pulp from last year's March. The rise was curbed by lower prices of electrical products.
From February to March producer prices for manufactured products increased by 0.8 per cent, the rise being mainly due to higher prices of electricity and copper.
