Producer Price Indices in May 2006

Producer prices for manufactured products rose by 5.2 per cent, export prices by 4.6 per cent and import prices by 9.9 per cent in the year to May. The basic price index for domestic supply rose by 6.5 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change of the wholesale price index was 6.7 per cent.

The rise in producer prices for manufactured products was particularly attributable to higher prices of oil products, copper, electricity and zinc from last year's May. The rise was curbed by lower prices of electrical products.

From April to May producer prices for manufactured products rose by 0.6 per cent. The rise was mainly due to higher prices of copper and electricity.
