Producer Price Indices in February 2007
Producer prices for manufactured goods rose by 4.5 per cent, export prices by 3.3 per cent and import prices by 2.4 per cent from February 2006 to February 2007. The basic price index for domestic supply went up by 4.7 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index amounted to 4.4 per cent.
The increase in the producer prices for manufactured goods was particularly attributable to risen prices of base metals and electricity from February 2006. The rise in the prices was curbed by falls in the prices of oil products and electrical products.
From January to February, producer prices for manufactured goods went up by 0.3 per cent. This was mainly due to risen prices of oil products. The rise was curbed by lower prices of chemical industry products.
