Producer Price Indices in March 2008

Producer prices for manufactured goods rose by 3.6 per cent, export prices by 2.8 per cent and import prices by 4.8 per cent from March 2007 to March 2008. The basic price index for domestic supply went up by 5.2 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was 4.7 per cent.

The rise in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by increased prices of oil products from March 2007. The rise in the prices was held back by fallen prices of nickel and electrical energy, among other things.

From February to March, producer prices for manufactured goods went up by 0.2 per cent. The increase in prices was attributable to higher prices of oil products, among other things. The rise in prices was held back by fallen prices of chemicals and chemical products, among other things.
