Producer Price Indices in April 2008

Producer prices for manufactured products rose by 3.6 per cent, export prices by 2.1 per cent and import prices by 4.2 per cent from April 2007 to April 2008. The basic price index for domestic supply went up by 5.0 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index amounted to 4.5 per cent.

Producer prices for manufactured products were pushed up especially by increased prices of oil products from April 2007. The rise was curbed by falls in the prices of nickel and electrical products.

From March to April, producer prices for manufactured products went up by 0.7 per cent. The rise was mainly due to cheaper prices of oil products. The rise in the prices was curbed, among other things, by falls in the prices of electrical products.
