Producer Price Indices in September 2008
Producer prices for manufactured goods rose by 5.4 per cent, export prices by 2.0 per cent and import prices by 5.7 per cent from September 2007 to September 2008. The basic price index for domestic supply went up by 6.4 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was 6.1 per cent.
The rise in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by increased prices of oil products and electricity from September 2007. The rise was curbed by fallen prices of non-ferrous metals.
From August to September, producer prices for manufactured goods went up by 0.1 per cent. The rise in the prices came especially from increased cost of electricity. The rise was held back by fallen prices of oil products, among other things.
