Producer prices for manufactured products fell by 2.1 per cent in March

According to Statistics Finland, producer prices for manufactured products went down by an average of 2.1 per cent from March 2013 to March 2014. The producer prices for manufactured products sold on the domestic market declined by 2.0 per cent, while the producer prices of export products fell by 2.3 per cent.

Producer prices for manufactured products went down especially due to reductions in the prices of oil products, electricity and manufacturing of basic metals from last year's March. The fall in producer prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of wood.

The Export Price Index fell by 2.5 per cent and the Import Price Index by 3.8 per cent in the year. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply went down by 2.3 per cent. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply including taxes declined by 2.0 per cent.

Export prices were in particular depressed by the falling prices of manufacturing of basic metals and oil products from March 2013. The fall in prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of wood. The fall in import prices was in turn especially caused by lower prices of crude oil and manufacturing of basic metals compared with the previous year's March. The fall in prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of chocolate and confectionery.

From February to March, producer prices for manufactured goods fell by 0.5 per cent. The fall was mainly due to lower costs of electricity and copper.
