Finland's preliminary population figure 5,472,421 at the end of November
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population at the end of November was 5,472,421. Over the January to November period, Finland's population increased by 21,150 persons, which is 2,440 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before. The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad: the number of immigrants was 15,470 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 5,680 persons.
Population increase by month 2012–2014*
According to the preliminary statistics for the January to November period, 28,800 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 13,330 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 980 lower and the number of emigrants 250 higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 7,580 of the immigrants and 9,160 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
During the January to November period, 52,830 children were born, which is 950 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2013. The number of deaths was 47,160, which is 270 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 245,950 over the January to November period. Compared with the previous January to November period, the decrease was 1,390 migrations according to the municipal division of 2014.
