Finland's preliminary population figure 5,495,830 at the end of July
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, Finland's population was 5,495,830 at the end of July. Our country's population increased by 8,522 persons during January-July. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 8,801. The number of births was 279 lower than that of deaths.
Population increase by month 2013–2016*
During January-July, 31,119 children were born, which is 1,320 fewer than in the corresponding period in 2015. The number of deaths was 31,398, which is 626 higher than one year earlier.
According to the preliminary statistics for July, 16,540 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 7.739 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 1,333 higher and the number of emigrants 824 less than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 4,603 of the immigrants and 5,163 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
According to the preliminary data, the number of inter-municipal migrations totalled 147,007 during January-July. Compared with the previous January-July, the decrease was 2,174 migrations according to the municipal division of 2016.
