Renovation building: Changes to data on renovation costs of non-residential buildings

Introduction of the State Treasury's data for renovations of non-residential buildings

New data will be introduced in the production of renovation building of non-residential buildings. The renovation cost data collected by the State Treasury from local government operators are included in the statistics starting from data concerning 2025. The change has an effect especially on the coverage and calculation method of the data on service buildings. The coverage of service buildings expands when, in addition to health care, social work activity and educational buildings, the renovation cost data on assembly buildings are produced as a new building category.

The calculation method of service buildings also changes. Previously, all data on service buildings were collected using Statistics Finland's inquiry, but now the data of municipalities, joint municipal authorities, wellbeing services counties and joint county authorities for wellbeing services are obtained as total data from the State Treasury's financial data. Renovations contracted by other organisations and private persons are, as usual, collected with the inquiry using a reduced sample.

The change has an effect on the comparability of the figures. The figures on service buildings are not directly comparable with previous ones due to the methodological change. The higher summary levels are not comparable either due to the inclusion of assembly buildings.

Classification of Buildings 2018 was adopted in two database tables

The generally widely used Classification of Buildings 2018 is adopted in two database tables on renovation building:

Replaces archived table 14c7 -- Renovations of non-residential buildings by type of house.

Replaces archived table 14ca -- Renovation costs of buildings and apartments.
