Grid Database

The Grid Database provides key data on the population by statistical grid in geographic data format. The data describe, for example, the age, income and employment of inhabitants.

The Grid Database offers Statistics Finland’s coordinate-based statistical data calculated by map grids of different sizes. The data can be used with geographic data software.

The data contain information about

  • inhabitant structure
  • education
  • income of inhabitants and households
  • size and life stage of households
  • buildings and dwellings
  • workplaces and main activities of inhabitants.

Geographic data can be ordered concerning the whole area of Finland. The grid size alternatives are

  • 250 m x 250 m
  • 1 km x 1 km
  • 5 km x 5 km.

Statistical data based on map grids offer the possibility to examine regional phenomena regardless of administrative boundaries. The data are suitable for locating marketplaces, planning marketing, research and regional reports and plans.

User rights to the data in the Grid Database depend on the purpose of use of the ordered data.

Data ordered for basic use may not be released or resold to a third party. The prohibition applies to both original and edited data and parts of the data.

Original data or parts thereof ordered for commercial or consulting use may not be released further or resold to a third party, but the data to be released must be aggregated, proportioned or otherwise processed.

In other respects, Statistics Finland's general terms of agreement apply to the order.

Order the Grid Database by sending us an email. In your message, describe the details of your order: what grid size you want, the purpose of use of the data and how many licences are needed.
