Comprehensive schools had 550,200 pupils in 2016
According to Statistics Finland, comprehensive schools had 550,200 pupils in 2016. The number of pupils in comprehensive schools increased by 0.8 per cent from the year before. Forty-nine per cent of the pupils in comprehensive schools were girls and 51 per cent were boys.

In all, 9.0 per cent of comprehensive school pupils received intensified support in autumn 2016 and 7.5 per cent special support (see database tables). More about this topic in the statistics on special education to be released in June 2017.
The number of pre-primary education pupils was 62,400, of whom 11,000 were in pre-primary education in schools and 51,400 in day care.
There were 2,449 active comprehensive schools in autumn 2016, which was 68 schools fewer than in the year before. Municipalities ran 95 per cent of the comprehensive schools.
