Producer prices for manufactured products fell by 0.3 per cent from October last year

According to Statistics Finland, producer prices for manufactured products fell by an average of 0.3 per cent from October 2015 to October 2016. The producer prices for manufactured products sold on the domestic market went down by 0.1 per cent, while the producer prices of export products fell by 0.7 per cent.

The fall in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by reductions in the prices of pulp, electronic appliances and chemicals and chemical products from October 2015. The fall in producer prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of electricity and oil products.

The export price index fell by 0.7 per cent and the import price index went up by 0.5 per cent in the year. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply went up by 0.8 per cent. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply including taxes went up by 1.0 per cent.

Export prices were in particular depressed by the falling prices of electronic appliances and fabricated metal products from October 2015. The fall in prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of oil products. The rise in import prices was in turn especially caused by higher prices of oil products and electricity compared with the previous year's October. The rise in import prices was slowed down, in particular, by lower prices of food products.

From September to October, producer prices for manufactured products went up by 0.8 per cent. The rise was mainly due to increased prices of oil products from the previous month.
