Description of new data
A new variable, Preparation for re-use, was added to database table 12cv - Municipal waste by treatment method in Finland.
A new category, preparation for re-use, was added to the variable ‘Waste treatment’ in database table 12qz - Municipal waste by treatment method.
Until the data for 2021, preparation for re-use included in recycling was for the first time separated in database tables into a specific treatment method. This is based on the revised reporting requirements of the EU waste directive.
By summing up the variables Preparation for re-use and Material recovery, excluding composting and decomposition, the recycling volumes of 2022 can be compared with previous years.
The changes made to the YLVA register of the Finnish environmental administration, such as classifying in more detail the origin of waste, the activity where waste was generated and the method of treatment, have made it possible to detect more accurately municipal waste delivered to energy recovery and separate it from other waste.
