Comprehensive schools had 556,700 pupils in 2017
According to Statistics Finland, comprehensive schools had 556,700 pupils in 2017. The number of pupils in comprehensive schools increased by 1.2 per cent from the year before. Forty-nine per cent of the pupils in comprehensive schools were girls and 51 per cent were boys.

In all, 10.0 per cent of comprehensive school pupils received intensified support in autumn 2017 and 8.0 per cent special support. More about this topic in the statistics on special education to be released in June 2018.
The number of pre-primary education pupils was 61,000 of whom 10,600 were in pre-primary education in schools and 50,400 in day care.
There were 2,384 active comprehensive schools in autumn 2017, which was 65 schools fewer than in the year before. Municipalities ran 95 per cent of the comprehensive schools.
