Compulsory education

According to the Act on Compulsory Education, in order to complete compulsory education, a person must complete the primary and lower secondary education syllabus and then continue to education aiming at an upper secondary qualification or other education referred to in the act.

Education belonging to compulsory education can be such as liberal adult education aimed at students of compulsory education age at folk high schools (so called folk high school year for those of compulsory education age). Folk high school year for those of compulsory education age refers to education lasting one school year intended for completers of comprehensive school of compulsory education age.
